The Ropen of Columbia River Gorge

The following come from some emails that I received, over two years, from an eyewitness who lives in Oregon:

My wife and I were coming back from a job at Skamania Lodge on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge.  At the time we lived in the Portland Oregon area, and we were driving back west on I-84 to get home.  When driving West on I-84 in that spot you have high rockwalls to the south of you that are a couple hundred feet and go as high as a couple thousand feet in some spots.  To the north of you when driving west on I-84 is the Columbia River.  This is kind of at the point where the river splits through the Cascade Mountains.

We were talking to each other when all of a sudden coming left to right across the highway about 100 yards (give or take) in front of us came the most odd looking thing I have ever seen flying.  My wife and I both immediately said “what was that?” . . . it came swooping over the trees on the left side of the highway.

It was almost identical to some of the sketches that were displayed on your website.  It had a longer neck, crested head, big curved wings that connected at the back of the body, and a long tail.  Out of all those things the tail is what really stood out to me.  The tail was longer then the animals whole body from tip of head to base of tail.

He was definetely brown in color, but I never got close enough to be able to tell you for sure if it had no hair, hair, or feathers.  From what I saw, It looked like we were just seeing his brown waxy skin, and my wife said she is almost positive it was his skin.

I’m a sceptic of a lot of creatures, but we saw something in the gorge and now I believe there is something out there that hasn’t been discovered.

I was not a believer of modern pterosaurs until my wife and I saw one . . .

Ropen on Oregon-Washington Border

It was flying pretty low to the ground probably only about thirty feet or so off the ground, and we only had about two seconds of visual on it . . .

More Pterosaurs in Washington State

Bigfoot is not the only nocturnal cryptid living in the northwestern United States. Pterosaurs and “weird bat-like” flying creatures (that may be pterosaurs) have been reported by various eyewitnesses . . .

This ropen-pterosaur, of southeast Cuba, may be related to the flying creature of the Columbia River Gorge (Washington state and Oregon) in the northwest USA
