Press Releases About Non-Extinct Pterodactyls

By Jonathan David Whitcomb

Over the past eighteen years, many press releases have been published about encounters that people have have with apparent living pterosaurs. Since a good number of these relate to sightings in the United States, let’s begin there.

Eyewitness Reports of Apparent Living Pterosaurs in the United States (LUAPT press release)

A nonfiction-cryptozoology author has analyzed reports of non-extinct pterosaurs, commonly called “pterodactyls” or “flying dinosaurs,” and found how sightings relate to thirty-three states (and Washington D.C.) of the United States. Jonathan Whitcomb, of Murray, Utah, has been receiving emails, and an occasional phone call, over a period of 13 years, from eyewitnesses from five continents, and most reported sightings are in North America.

Two Dragon Hunters in Southern California

Two men living in Los Angeles County proclaim that dragons are not all fictional and that some species of pterosaurs are still alive. For Garth Guessman of Los Angeles and Jonathan Whitcomb of Long Beach, 2013 is the tenth anniversary of their beginning serious research into sightings of “flying dragons,” what many Americans call “pterodactyls.” [In more recent years, Whitcomb has lived in Utah.]

Santa in a sleigh, followed by a ropen

Yes, Virginia, there is a … flying dinosaur ( for the Christmas season)

According to a nonfiction author in Utah, he does not likely follow reindeer on his nightly journeys but probably follows other deer and wildlife. He can be seen almost anywhere except near the north pole or south pole, and little ones do not welcome his nightly visits.

Mini-Documentary on the Sighting by Patty Carson

Patty Carson, I am sad to announce, passed away early in 2019. Her contributions to living-pterosaur investigations have been great, for she has spoken freely about many details that she observed in the flying creature she encountered in Cuba in about the year 1965, when she was a little girl. She also gave us a remarkable sketch, drawn from her memory of that ropen.

Danger from Pterodactyl Attacks

Is the ropen, or any other modern pterosaur, dangerous? First, we have more than one animal of that type in our modern world. At any particular time and place, a particular long-tailed ropen may search for bats or jack rabbits or fish, and that choice of prey depends a lot on the experiences of that particular animal.
