Various Worldwide Sightings of Pterosaurs

Europe: Spain 1, Netherlands 1; Not Soccer, Pterosaur Sightings

Forget about the World Cup, for the moment: Spain defeating Netherlands 1-0 in the international soccer finals. These two countries tied 1-1 in something completely different: modern sightings of apparent pterosaurs. Near Amsterdam (Netherlands), the flying creature, seen in daylight, was an elephant-grey color; in Spain, the flying creature, seen at night, was a suede color, with a long tail. Neither creature had any feathers.

Philippines Sighting Around 1994

“. . . what he called a “pterodactyl,” in fact two flying together, when he was a boy in the city of Pagbilao, Quezon Province (not to be confused with Quezon City). . . . they have long tails about 3 to 4 meters long . . .it is not a bird: They don’t have any feathers. . . . “I saw them clearly: the SHAPE, their BAT-LIKE WINGS, a LONG NECK and . . . I dunno if it is a horn behind their heads. They have a long beak. I even saw their claws between their wings. They don’t have any feathers . . .”

Pterodactyl Near Indonesia

“About 150 miles southeast of Bali, Indonesia, (June, 2008) a Britten-Norman Islander (airplane) nearly collided with what both the pilot and the co-pilot soon afterwards called a ‘pterodactyl.’ At an altitude of 6500 feet, the plane was put into a dive to avoid a collision.”

The Kongamato, according to Wikipedia, is said to reside in Western Zambia, Angola and Congo (Africa). According to In Witchbound Africa (non-fiction book by F. Melland), this very dangerous creature flies along certain rivers, attacking small boats, at times, hence the name that means “breaker of boats.”

Duane Hodgkinson, “Pterodactyl” Eyewitness

Duane Hodgkinson was interviewed a number of times between 2004 and 2007. My communications with him in 2004 were by telephone, email, and snail mail. My friend and associate, Garth Guessman, interviewed the World War II veteran in person, in 2005, and the interview was videotaped (on Youtube as “ropen-pterodactyl American eyewitness”). I have not the slightest doubt that he saw a ropen.

The astonishing experience of two American soldiers, in that jungle clearing just west of Finschhafen, New Guinea, in 1944—that can be read in many places. But let’s now look at this man Duane Hodgkinson, and learn what we can about him.

Like most American soldiers who began serving in World War II, Duane was hardly more than a boy. But he had been a farm boy in his teenaged years in Ohio. His experience with the animals and farm yard probably helped him to have a feel for distance and size in the outdoors. I don’t know the responsibilities of a weather observer for the field artillery in 1944, but Duane was trusted with that assignment. When he and his army buddy saw something fly up into the air, on the other side of the field where they stood, they could not very easily make any big mistake in estimating the size of the field: about 100 feet across. With no obstruction, Duane was able to make an estimate of the size of the strange creature that flew up and out of the field: The wingspan was about that of a small private airplane. Sometime after his military service, Duane was able to obtain a Piper Tri-Pacer and he later compared the wingspan of the “pterodactyl” with that plane’s wingpan; it was similar.

Some time after World War II had ended, Duane became a flight instructor. He has accumulated thousands of hours of flying time. The point? He would never have continued his declaration of seeing a giant “pterodactyl” unless he was serious about his experience; it would have been bad for business. The only reasonable explanation is that he saw something at least close to what he described, for he was not drinking or on drugs at the time (he has never been a drinker).

Texas Sighting, 1995

The account of the 1995 Brownsville, Texas, sighting starts with a dog that is acting strangely. The eyewitness (11-12-year-old girl) is afraid that her dog is sick, for it was not eating.

“I went outside around late morning . . . I found (the dog) cowering around the side of our house as low as she could get behind a banana tree . . . I heard [a] weird noise that made me turn my head.  In the open backyard next door was what looked like a . . . tall man . . . looking away from me . . . the man turned and I realized that this man didn’t have a face like a man at all!  I froze in fear trying to figure out what I was staring at. . . . I watched . . . black leathery (and almost shimmery like they were wet)  bat-like wings [unwrapped] from around the man . . . I was so scared . . . [it] stared right at me with its large black eyes and walked closer to me (it had been about 40 ft away maybe) . . . it turned its head . . . I realized the shape of its head . . . it somehow looked like a pterodactyl.  I thought that was crazy . . . it turned its head back to me . . . the thing appeared to just lift off the ground . . . gliding . . . I ran into my house and slammed the sliding glass door behind me and caught the shadow of its profile in the window . . .”

I have been trying to reach this eyewitness by phone; I’ve found that phone interviews are helpful in learning details that eyewitnesses do not think to volunteer in their first reports.
